– Matthew 28 v20.

“And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night. He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, or the pillar of fire by night, from before the people” – Exodus 13 v21-22.

As children of God, we can rely on His care and guidance through this New Year as we did through the one that has passed. He is the same “Yesterday, today, and forever”. All God’s promises are fulfilled in Christ, and the one that brings constant comfort in all of life’s situations is that He will “never leave us nor forsake us”. God’s promise to lead His people is repeated several times in the Old Testament and is carried over into the New. Hebrews 13 v5 assures us that as we trust Him, even in times of great need, we can rest on His word that “I will never leave you nor forsake you”.

God did not deliver His people from being slaves in Egypt; then leave them to make their own way through life. No! He delivered them with a plan and a purpose. They were brought into a whole new life and a new lifestyle. God told Moses they were to be “a special treasure to me above all people; for all the earth is mine. And you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” Exodus 19 v5-6.

Despite their many faults and failings, God’s plan did not change. He did not forsake them. He led them, covered them, and cared for them. The cloud by day and the fire by night was a constant reminder of his presence. God’s promise to Abraham was that through him and his descendants the whole earth would be blessed. No wonder God was watching over them. From their descendants, many generations later would come the one we know today as Jesus Christ the Lord. He is one who has called us to follow Him; even through a bewildered world.

Yes! Praise him! We are His church, His people, His children and His ‘bride’. That is why, as a child of God, the promise that He will “never leave you nor forsake you” is yours. In Him, you are part of His plan and His purpose, and together we have a “hope and a future”.

Be blessed Eddie.
