Jesus prayed to his father (John 17:3) “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
Jesus also said: “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father”
The Apostle Paul said that the greatest ambition of his life was to “know Christ” Philippians 3:4-9. Read these verses and feel the passion that Paul expresses in them. He had a lot going for him in the natural. He was ‘university’ trained. He had education and status. But he says that all these things were of no real importance to him. The most important thing to him was to know Christ.
Paul is not simply telling us his personal preference; he is getting over to us a truth that is central to our Christian life. We certainly have needs. Our bodies need healing, our finances need boosting, our relationships need strengthening, and we could add several etc’s to that list. However, another close disciple of Christ tells us that “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who has called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3)
What do we want more than anything else!? We could all make a list. But let’s top the list with Christ. If we ‘Seek first the Kingdom of God” then “all these things will be added to us”. Quite a promise don’t you think?
How do I do it? 1. Know as much as you can about Him. This means reading and studying the Gospels. All He did and all He taught. 2. Develop fellowship with Him. In prayer and in praise. He is ‘The Door’. The way to the father’s house. 3. Have faith in Him. Believe in His words and follow His commands. Drink at His Well! “If anyone drinks the water that I give him, it will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:14)
This morning let’s draw water from the well of our salvation. Let wells of praise and worship, life and healing open up through our joy in His presence. Amen.
We’ll all be blessed as we get to know Him more.
Eddie.
